About Us

Your child is in great hands...

Our Nursery

Carol Jane Montessori Nursery is a small, independent family owned nursery. It first opened in June 1991 and has been enjoying high praise and national acclaim ever since. With caring staff, incredible facilities and an instant ‘home-from-home’ feel, it built an enviable reputation right from day one of opening its doors. Above all the success, seeing happy children pass through our doors since opening, with many past pupils staying in touch and saying they feel like they’re coming home when they visit, is priceless.

We understand what an important decision it is choosing the right nursery for your child and for your family. At Carol Jane, we are committed to helping every child learn well in a loving and nurturing environment. We pride ourselves on offering outstanding, well-equipped surroundings and materials for children to enjoy and learn from and which support their well-being. Most importantly, we celebrate every child’s individuality to build confidence, creativity and independence through their early years and to promote a life-long love of learning.

We have five main play areas on site, so each of our groups can split and have plenty of space to play and benefit from small group learning. By the end of each day every group will have accessed all main areas of the site, offering a wide variety of activities – there is something to spark everyone’s interest!

We are a nursery filled with love, laughter and magic. We hope that over the coming pages, we are able to give you a sense of our mission and what makes our nursery special.

Health & Safety

The nursery is set in a third of an acre of lovely grounds and benefits from sole use so our facilities, including our woodland, are never shared with outside users.

Our entire site – yes even our woods – are securely fenced. The main site entrance has electric gates and a CCTV video entry system. All areas are covered by 24-hour recorded CCTV.

Daily risk assessments enable us to action any issues as required. We also run in-depth yearly risk assessments to review our environment and ensure its continued suitability.

All reasonably practicable actions will be taken to ensure the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment and the health and safety of all persons. For example, hinge finger guards and slam stops are fitted to all doors to prevent injuries caused by fingers being caught in closing doors.

Throughout our daily routine we teach children methods to handle potential risks such as walking with scissors and not running inside so that children can develop an understanding of how and why they need to keep safe.

Visitors to the nursery must be planned in advance, cold callers are never allowed entry to the building. All visitors will be asked to sign in and out. Visitors are never left unaccompanied or unsupervised with children at any time.

Children are only collected by named people, this is first discussed during settling in and is confirmed in one of our many induction forms. Staff keep a daily record of collection arrangements of all children as they are dropped off in the morning.

The nursery is cleaned thoroughly every night by our cleaning team to prevent the spread of germs and to keep an optimum clean environment to protect the children so they can enjoy their play safely. All toys and resources are cleaned regularly.

We recognise that parents’ main worry when leaving their child is often the people they are leaving them with. Children's welfare is of paramount concern at all times and at the centre of everything we do . We operate a safe recruitment policy. All staff go through a rigorous recruitment process to ensure we employ only the best of the best. Checks are carried out via enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance checks as well as other checks such as, employer references, identity and qualification checks. When recruiting staff we will not employ anyone we would not be happy to leave our own children with.
